28 June 2021 11:19

JAKARTA. Indonesia and Morocco have commenced their first meeting as a part of bilateral cooperation regarding renewable energy, emission level cutback, and investment.

This meeting acts as an implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) related to the energy and mineral sectors signed by the Indonesian and Moroccan governments in 2018. “Morocco is one of the strategic partners in the energy and mineral resources (ESDM) sector that could promote cooperation opportunities with other African countries,” Sunindyo Suryo Herdadi, the Director of Mineral and Coal Program Development of the Ministry of ESDM, explains.

Meanwhile, in another session, the Director of Geothermal Division, Harris, claims that the Indonesia-Morocco relation would support the transition from fossil-based energy to renewable energy. This endeavour would also drive the energy mix target to reach 23% in 2025 and greenhouse gas emissions to fall 29% in 2030.

“These objectives are achieved by ourselves, and 41% is supported by international aids as stated in the Paris Agreement,” Harris confirms.

In the said meeting, Indonesia and Morocco agreed to simultaneously create research and investment opportunities in the mineral and coal sector. Furthermore, Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises are invited to participate in developing the mineral and coal sector in Morocco. (KR/ZH)
