Trade Balance of Marine and Fisheries sector recorded a surplus of IDR 27 trillion by May 2021

JAKARTA - The marine and fisheries sector recorded a positive performance for the first 5 months of 2021. Even the trade balance of this sector was a surplus of USD1.9 billion or equivalent to Rp27 trillion. This figure rose 3.72% over the same period the previous year. 

Cumulatively, the export value of fishery products in January–May reached USD 2.1 billion. This figure is up 4.94% compared to the same period in 2020.

The high export value came from the main commodities, including shrimp, which contributed USD865.9 million or 41.0% of the total export value. Furthermore, tuna – skipjack – tuna amounted to USD269.5 million or 12.7% of the total export value and squid–cuttlefish–octopus amounted to USD223.6 million or 10.6% of the total export value.

Followed by crab at USD191.5 million (9.1%), seaweed at USD115.1 million (5.4%) and layur at USD38.0 million (1.8%).

The main export destination countries are the United States (US) at USD 934.1 million or 44.2% of the total export value, followed by China at USD 311.2 million (14.7%), and ASEAN countries at USD 230.7. million (10.9%). Then Japan amounted to USD225.1 million (10.6%), the European Union amounted to USD102.0 million (4.8%), and Australia amounted to USD45.1 million (2.1%). (LM)
