JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry continues to encourage the industry to transform towards sustainable development. One of these strategic steps is carried out through the application of the industrial concept green, namely the principle of using resources that are efficient, environmentally friendly, reusable and sustainable and utilize waste as alternative energy.

The Minister of Industry expressed his appreciation to PT. Veolia Services Indonesia, which collaborated with Danone-AQUA in building the largest PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) plastic bottle recycling and reprocessing plant in Indonesia. The factory which stands on an area of 22,000 square meters with a building area of 7,000 square meters is located in the Pasuruan Industrial Estate Rembang (PIER), East Java.

The construction of the recycling plant has been started since March 2019 with a total investment of IDR 600 billion. Currently, Veolia Indonesia's recycling plant has a production capacity of 25,000 tons per year of Recycled PET Plastic (RPET) which has met the best food safety standards (foodgrade).

The Minister of Industry is optimistic that the investment in this PET plastic bottle recycling plant can strengthen the recycling ecosystem and the circular economy and can optimize the level of plastic waste collection in Indonesia. This is in line with efforts to support the government's target of overcoming the problem of plastic waste in the sea up to 70% by 2025. (LM)
