The transportation sector requires restructuring and revitalisation instead of credit facilities

JAKARTA. PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero) (SMI) would support state-owned enterprises (BUMN) in the transportation sector to restructure and revitalise themselves in order to survive the pandemic.

The President Director of SMI, Edwin Syahruzad, claims that the transportation sector is the sector that suffers the most during this pandemic as the said field is closely related to people’s mobility.

According to Syahruzad, the loss would affect the players’ survivability. Furthermore, he thinks that the way to handle it does not involve new credit channelling, but rather SMI’s involvement in the restructuring and revitalising process to maintain the survivability of these companies within the field. Syahruzad explains this during the virtual discussion held by one of the media in Jakarta yesterday (7/7).

Syahruzad observes that PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk seems to be the fastest to recover amid the pandemic, even looking promising, within the tollway segment. “It is because tollway becomes the mobility alternative for the people during this pandemic. Thus, its recovery is quite impressive compared to other segments,” he continues. On the other hand, other segments, such as flights and trains, are having a hard time and might not recover any time soon.

Therefore, SMI is currently working to aid the state-owned companies in the transportation sector so that when the time comes, they are ready to soar again. (AM/ZH)
