08 July 2021 15:02

JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia Consumer Survey (SK) in early June 2021 indicated that consumer optimism about economic conditions continued to strengthen. The Consumer Confidence Index1 (IKK) in June 2021 increased by 107.4, compared to 104.4 in May 2021.

This condition needs to be maintained and observed in line with the implementation of the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) to deal with the increase in Covid-19 in Indonesia. This also takes into account the results of the Decree which indicate the strengthening of consumer optimism in June 2021, mainly driven by improved consumer perceptions of current economic conditions, although they are still in the pessimistic area (<100).

Consumer confidence was observed to improve in all categories of expenditure levels and education groups, as well as in the majority of respondents' age groups. Spatially, consumer confidence improved in 8 cities surveyed, the highest in Banten, followed by Denpasar and Mataram.

On a quarterly basis, consumer confidence in the second quarter of 2021 was observed to strengthen and was at an optimistic level at the level of 104.4, higher than 88.0 in the first quarter of 2021, and 82.1 in the second quarter of 2020. (LM)
