09 July 2021 10:21

JAKARTA - Based on the results of the Retail Sales Survey (SPE)[1] in May 2021, respondents predict that annual retail sales performance will grow slower in June 2021. This is reflected in the June 2021 Real Sales Index (IPR) of 202.3 or forecasted annually grew by 4.5% (yoy), not as high as growth of 14.7% (yoy) in May 2021. On a monthly basis, retail sales in June 2021 are forecast to contract by -11.1% (mtm).

The majority of groups recorded a slowdown, particularly the Parts and Accessories Group, and the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Group, while sales of the Information and Communication Equipment Group and the Cultural and Recreational Goods Group contracted.

Meanwhile, in May 2021, respondents indicated that retail sales performance both monthly and annually recorded positive growth. May 2021 Real Sales Index (IPR) grew 3.2% (mtm) and 14.7% (yoy), although not as high as 17.3% (mtm) and 15.6% (yoy) in April 2021.

In terms of prices, respondents predict that inflationary pressures in the next 3 and 6 months (August and November) will slow down. The General Price Expectation Index (IEH) for the next 3 months (August) was 124.4, a decrease from the previous month, supported by smoother distribution of goods. (LM)
