JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry is proactive in encouraging more information and communication technology (ICT) products to be produced by industries in the country. This step is in line with the government's efforts to implement import substitution policies and Increase the Use of Domestic Products (P3DN).
"ICT products are very important to be produced domestically, such as tablet computers, laptops, desktops, routers, printers and speakers," said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in a virtual press conference to increase the use of domestic products in the education sector, Thursday (22 /7).
The Minister of Industry emphasized that various efforts were carried out to improve the quality and production capacity for the ICT industry, including optimizing P3DN, especially for the procurement of government goods and services so as to create market certainty for domestic products, as well as the preparation and application of SNI (including Mandatory SNI) for ICT products.
Currently, with the support from the Ministry of Education and Culture, laptop products that can be assembled domestically have reached 400 thousand units. The Minister of Industry is optimistic, with the creation of a sustainable market certainty for laptop products, it will encourage local manufacturers to make Industrial Design (IP) or local models, electrical designs, and mechanical designs so that it will encourage the efficiency of laptop production in the country and boost the competitiveness of the industry.
