JAKARTA. As its attempt to expand businesses, PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) would extend its operation to airport construction following its assignment on handling infrastructure management of Hang Nadim Airport, Batam.

Mahendra Vijaya, Corporate Secretary of WIKA, claims that the company plans to run the airport management business. It includes the investment in Hang Nadim International Airport, Batam, with a managing period of up to 25 years.

The Committee of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project of Hang Nadim Airport, under the Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority (BP Batam), has decided on the consortium A1-IIAC-WIKA. It consists of WIKA, PT Angkasa Pura I, and Incheon International Airport Corporation as the Hang Nadim Airport Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project tender winners. Vijaya announces this news in the information disclosure earlier today (29/7).

Vijaya further elaborates that the airport business has several advantages. It includes adding strategic projects into WIKA’s portfolio. Furthermore, this new business line has granted WIKA the construction contract income from its right to match, potential recurring income throughout the partnership period, possible assets recycling, and knowledge transfer within the aviation business.
