Garuda Indonesia and Aercap reconcile

02 August 2021 06:43

JAKARTA – PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (GIAA) and its lessor, Aercap Ireland Limited (Aercap), have finally resolved their issues regarding the bankruptcy lawsuit and the relocation of B737 800 NG aircraft. Technical Director of Garuda Indonesia, Rahmat Hanafi, relays the news in the information disclosure, quoted today (2/8).

It is mentioned that these parties had signed a Global Side Letter Agreement last week (28/7). This agreement consists of the withdrawal of the bankruptcy lawsuit filed against Garuda to the New South Wales Supreme Court on June 21, 2021. “On the other hand, the company would transport and relocate nine leased airplanes to the previously specified location,” Hanafi further states.

According to Hanafi, after this deal, the company would continue to exert good corporate governance principles. Furthermore, he assures that this reconciliation would not affect GIAA’s operational activities in running its airline.

As widely known, Garuda Indonesia suffers from a deficit in its revenue as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. This condition forces the company to cancel the order for 49 units of B733 Max. (LK/ZH)
