JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry continues to encourage the development of the domestic game industry so that it can be more competitive in the global competitive arena. This strategic step needs to build a good industrial ecosystem through strengthening the value chain and optimizing the potential that exists in the country.

"By paying attention to the industrial value chain, it will produce an integrated and comprehensive ecosystem," said the Ministry of Industry's Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) Taufiek Bawazier at the Proud Game Made in Indonesia webinar, Tuesday (3/8).

The Director General of ILMATE explained that his party has made efforts to strengthen the value chain in the content industry involving several supporting sectors, including the comics, animation, film, game, music and toy industries. The Ministry of Industry is also proactive in coordinating with relevant ministries, SOEs, and the private sector.

Based on data compiled by Newzoo in 2016-2019, the revenue of the game industry in Indonesia continues to experience a significant increase. In 2019, Indonesia earned USD1.084 billion in revenue from the gaming and eSports industry.

“With this achievement, Indonesia is currently the largest gaming industry market in Southeast Asia and is ranked 17th in the world. There are also 52 million Indonesians who are gamers," he said. (LM)
