Huawei invests US$100 million in Asia Pacific startup ecosystem

SINGAPORE - In conjunction with the inaugural HUAWEI CLOUD Spark Founders Summit in Hong Kong and Singapore, Huawei announced plans to invest US$100 million to support startups in the Asia Pacific region.

In its announcement, Huawei stated that the investment rolled out through the Spark Program in the Asia Pacific region, aims to build a sustainable startup ecosystem in the region over the next three years. Huawei itself has been helping Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand in building their startup hubs.

At this summit, Huawei also announced that the program will focus its efforts on developing four additional startup hubs in Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. The goal is to recruit 1,000 startups to join the Spark accelerator program and help scale the 100 startups selected.

Jeffery Liu, President for Asia Pacific Region of Huawei added, "Over the past two decades, we have remained committed to upholding the motto In Asia Pacific, For Asia Pacific. By leveraging Huawei's global customer base and full-stack technology, the Spark Program will invest more than US$100 million over the next three years and provide comprehensive support for the establishment of a sustainable startup ecosystem that creates new value for this dynamic region."
