Food and beverage industry supports 6.66% of GDP in second quarter

JAKARTA - The food and beverage industry (mamin) is the largest contributor to the non-oil and gas processing industry sector in the second quarter of 2021 which reached 38.42% and contributed to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reaching 6.66%.

The cumulative achievement of this strategic sector in terms of exports was also very good, reaching USD19.58 billion or an increase of 42.59% from the same period in the previous year which was recorded at USD13.73 billion. This brilliant performance of the food and beverage industry needs to be maintained during the Covid-19 pandemic, because of its important role in supplying people's food needs.

"The food and beverage industry has so far had a broad positive impact on the national economy, such as increasing added value through downstreaming, foreign exchange earnings from investment and exports to the absorption of a large number of workers," said Plt. Director General of Agro Industry, Ministry of Industry, Putu Juli Ardika in Bekasi, Saturday (7/8).

Putu emphasized that the Ministry of Industry has made various efforts to increase the productivity and competitiveness of the food and beverage industry in the country. For example, maintaining the availability of raw materials and facilitating the provision of fiscal incentives. In the second quarter of 2021, the food and beverage industry recorded a positive growth of 2.95%. (LM)
