19 August 2021 08:27

JAKARTA – PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI) pledges to cut back greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through its subsidiaries, PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) of 151,626.9 tons of CO2eq and PT Arutmin Indonesia (AI) of 114.461 tons of CO2eq. Director of Bumi Resources, Dileep Srivastava, announces this plan in the press release, quoted Thursday (19/8).

It is further mentioned that in the first half of 2021, KPC has contrived to reduce GHG emissions by 9.8% year-on-year (yoy), from 1,012,531.4 tons CO2eq to 913,338.35 tons CO2eq. “The GHG emission cutback in the production system is BUMI’s commitment to supporting the carbon-neutral movement in Indonesia and our primary indicator in the Environmental, Social, and Governance performance,” Srivastava explains further.

According to Srivastava, the GHG emission cutback target is stated on Sustainability Report 2020, referring to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. In 2020, BUMI achieved a Gold Rank in Asia Sustainability Reporting (ASSRAT) Award 2020 from the National Center for Sustainability Reporting (NCSR) and Institute of Certified Sustainability Practitioner. “BUMI’s Sustainability Report received a Gold Rank from NCSR for three years in a row,” he confirms.

Currently, the company had established an ESG Committee by the beginning of this year to reduce GHG emissions. “This committee would set a measurement to track the attainment of the emission cutback target,” Srivastava adds. (LK/ZH)
