JAKARTA – PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) or Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) notices the addition of one million new single investor identifications (SID) until August 2021. It nearly doubles the number reported throughout 2020 of 590,659 new SIDs.

Inarno Djajadi, President Director of IDX, announces that this number is the highest addition recorded in 44 years of Indonesian stock market activity. “There have been 2,697,832 new SIDs as of August 31, 2021, thanks to the cooperation and synergy of all stakeholders in the stock market,” he confirms in a press release in Jakarta, Thursday (2/9).

According to Djajadi, the increment in new SID results from the digital optimisation implemented since 2019, whose roles were further enhanced last year. Additionally, the said stakeholders in the stock market include PT Kliring Penjaminan Efek Indonesia (KPEI) (lit. Indonesia Clearing and Guarantee Corporation), PT Kustodian Sentral Efek Indonesia (KSEI) (lit. Indonesia Central Securities Depository), and Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK) (lit. Financial Services Authority).

In addition, IDX also sees growth in new investors, reaching 2,219,712 investors in August 2021. The numbers are doubling compared to last year. Until today, the new investors amount to 6,100,525 investors in total. Their daily activities also increase 2.2 times to 641,442 SIDs per day from 293,886 SIDs per day.

Hasan Fawzi, Director of Development of IDX, shows that the investors are no longer concentrated in Java. In July 2021, the concentration of the investors in Java depletes to 69% from 74% in 2018. Furthermore, 80% of the investors are now categorised as millennials and Generation Z, the generations born in mid-1990s. (LK/ZH)
