Telkom primes Mitratel to be the biggest tower provider

07 September 2021 07:58

JAKARTA. By transferring 4,000 towers to PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi (Mitratel), PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (TLKM) is intended to prepare its subsidiary to become the biggest telecommunication tower provider in Indonesia.

The last transfer, made in August 2021, has allowed Mitratel to gain control over 28,000 units of telecommunication towers spread across the country. Moreover, the freshly acquired towers are located outside Java, thus extending its user base even wider.

In a virtual press conference yesterday (6/9), Heri Supriadi, Director of Financial and Risk Management of Telkom, expressed his vision in the said transfer to raise its tenancy ratio, which is currently perched at 1.57. All in all, the percentage of Mitratel’s towers that are located outside Java has reached 57%, thus increasing the potential tenancy to develop even more.

Budi Setyawan Wijaya, Director of Strategic Portfolio of Telkom, added that Telkom would equip Mitratel with other advantages. One of them is a fiber optic infrastructure. “Mitratel would gain several fiber optic portfolios that are envisioned to complete the products offered by Mitratel to the telecommunication operators in need,” he elaborated further.

With these various strategies, Mitratel is ready to optimise value creation further through more extensive corporate actions. In the first half of 2021, Mitratel records a consolidated revenue of IDR 3.2 trillion. It increases 10.9% year-on-year (yoy). Meanwhile, the margin of its EBITDA also climbs to 76.5% from 66.6% reported in the same period last year. (AM/ZH)
