Exports of processing industry exceeds USD111 billion

JAKARTA - The processing industry recorded an export value of USD111 billion during January-August 2021, an increase of 34.12% compared to the same period last year of USD82.76 billion. The industrial sector contributed the most to 78.16% of the total national export value for eight months this year which reached USD142.01 billion.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the export value of the processing industry in August 2021 amounted to USD16.37 billion, an increase of 20.67% compared to July 2021 (m-to-m) and a 52.62% jump compared to August 2020 (y- on-y). The industrial sector contributed the largest up to 76.42% of the total national export value in August 2021 amounting to USD21.42 billion.

The Minister of Industry is optimistic that the brilliant performance recorded by the industrial sector can spur efforts to recover the national economy. "In addition, it proves that in the midst of the limitations of the pandemic, the Indonesian manufacturing industry in general has high resilience so that it can still record positive growth," said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta, Thursday (16/9).

Within the framework of independent and sovereign industrial development, the Ministry of Industry continues to encourage the optimization of several programs, including the 35% import substitution program by 2022, the program for Increasing the Use of Domestic Products (P3DN), and downstreaming of natural resources.
