JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry continues to strive to increase the utilization and growth of the domestic industry, which is in line with the import substitution policy. One of the products that are encouraged to grow domestically is information and communication technology (ICT) products.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said, through the 2021 State Budget, the government is serious about supporting the development of ICT as one of the backbones of the nation's defense, especially in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. "Demand from the digital economy in Indonesia will obviously be very high, and this pandemic will accelerate digital adoption from both consumers and producers," he said in Jakarta, Tuesday (21/9).

The Minister of Industry stated that currently there is a decrease in import substitution in the electronics industry from Rp. 231 trillion in 2019 to IDR 228 trillion in 2020. Even so, the government is optimistic that the steps taken to implement the program on optimizing the level of domestic components (TKDN) can protect the industry in the country and suppress imported products.

"If the industrial sector continues to operate, of course it will provide a broad multiplier effect for the national economy. Because, by meeting the needs of the community, it can also increase employment," he said.

According to data from the Ministry of Industry, currently as many as 581 electronic equipment products in Indonesia have been certified TKDN. Of these, products with a TKDN achievement value of less than 25% are 134 products, TKDN 25-40% are 240 products, and TKDN is more than 40% about 207 products. Meanwhile, certification of telecommunication equipment reached 691 products, with TKDN below 25% for 24 products, TKDN 25-40% for 655 products, and TKDN more than 40% for around 12 products. (LM)
