SUBANG - A total of 18 tons of coffee produced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from the Gunung Luhur Berkah Cooperative (GLB) was released to the Saudi Arabian market on Friday (17/9) in Subang, West Java. The release was led by the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki, accompanied by the Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade, Didi Sumedi, Head of Bank Indonesia West Java, Herawanto, and the Regent of Subang Ruhimat.

The potential for export transactions of coffee products from the GLB Cooperative to Saudi Arabia reaches USD 1 million with a volume of 150 tons for the next one year. The coffee exported to Saudi Arabia is java preanger arabica coffee that grows in the West Java region with specifications including natural processes, honey washing processes, and full washing processes. These coffees have a unique taste that is influenced by the way they are processed.

"The Ministry of Trade is committed to encouraging SMEs to 'Go Global' according to the direction of the Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi. We appreciate Indonesian exporters who continue to maintain their exports even during the pandemic. It is hoped that other commodities will follow the success of the Java Preanger coffee commodity and contribute to the Indonesian economy," said Didi.

Didi added that Indonesia's export performance in August 2021 recorded a record high, reaching USD21.42 billion, breaking the record previously recorded in August 2011.

In the January–July 2021 period, Indonesia's coffee exports were recorded at USD 400.96 million. Indonesia's export destinations include the United States with a market share of 24 percent, Egypt (11 percent), Japan (9 percent), Malaysia (7 percent), and Italy (6 percent). Meanwhile, in 2020, Indonesia is listed as the 9th coffee exporting country in the world, behind Brazil, Switzerland, Germany, Colombia, Vietnam, Italy, France, and Honduras. (LM)
