Gov’t believed bio jet fuel could reduce air transport emission

JAKARTA. The Indonesian government mentioned that bioavtur used for air transportation only generates 2% of emission to the total global emission, thus claiming it to be able to cut off the emissions from the aviation industry.

Arifin Tasrif, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), explained that the application of bioavtur is another part of Indonesia's commitment to the Paris Agreement, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Previously, the government had also attempted to cut off greenhouse gas emissions by using biodiesel as the fuel for land transportations.

“In terms of the land transportation sector, we have been quite successful through the B30 mandatory program. The program generated quite a significant help in attaining the new and renewable energy resources (EBT) target and minimising greenhouse gas emissions,” Tasrif further elaborated yesterday (6/10) during the test flight using bio jet fuel.

For the record, ESDM Ministry had issued the regulation requiring mixing in at least 3% of biofuels to the jet fuel back in 2015. Then, in 2025, the said percentage would be increased to 5%. (KR/ZH)
