Electronic money transactions increased 45% in Q3 2021

JAKARTA. Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor, Perry Warijyo, revealed that the electronic money (e-money) transactions by the end of Q3 2021 had increased 45.05% year-on-year (yoy) to IDR 209.81 trillion. BI further projected the transaction to reach IDR 284 trillion or grow 38.75% in total by year-end.

Warijyo gave out these statements during the virtual press conference of the BI Board of Governors Meeting on Tuesday (19/10). According to his words, digital economic transactions are popularised due to the acceptance and preference of modern society in online shopping. In addition, they are encouraged by the extent and ease of digital payment systems and the acceleration of digital banking services.

Meanwhile, Warijyo also disclosed that the digital banking transaction until Q3 2021 had risen 46.72% yoy to IDR 28,685.5 trillion. Throughout 2021, the said value is predicted to grow 43.04% yoy to IDR 39,130 trillion in total.

With this development, Warijyo claimed that Bank Indonesia would keep working on digitalising payment systems to boost the national digital financial economy acceleration, including extending the scope of digital payment systems. (AM/ZH)
