JAKARTA. As its near-future plan to acquire digital banks unfolded, PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBNI) eyed banks under the first and second group of commercial banks based on business activities (BUKU I and II) with core capitals of IDR 3 trillion or less.

Royke Tumilaar, President Director of BNI, announced this vision through BNI’s public expose earlier today (25/10). However, he had yet to specify the bank names that were soon to be acquired and targeted to be digital banks.

Furthermore, Tumilaar claimed that BNI had arrived at the initial decision to take over banks with solid business ecosystems to be further developed into digital banks. In its process, BNI would then form strategic partnerships with strong and experienced parties to upgrade financial technologies.

“We believe by having a digital bank as a subsidiary, BNI could offer an effective and accurate banking service,” Tumilaar envisioned. This digital bank would act in accordance with BNI’s visions in the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects, which provides beneficial impacts for local communities in the form of a sustainable economy.
