Transportation Minister targets Mentawai Baru airport construction to be completed in August 2022

MENTAWAI - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi targets the construction of the Mentawai Baru Airport in the Mentawai Islands Regency, West Sumatra Province to be completed in August 2022. This was conveyed by the Minister of Transportation while reviewing the progress of the construction of the Mentawai Baru Airport, Saturday (20/11).

Mentawai Baru Airport will replace the existing airport, namely Rokot Sipora Airport, which currently only has a runway length of 850 meters. Thus, only Grand Caravan propeller aircraft can be landed. A new runway will be built to accommodate larger aircraft.

The Ministry of Transportation has prepared a budget of IDR 547 billion to build the Mentawai Baru Airport, whose construction progress has reached around 42 percent.

Mentawai Baru Airport will later be equipped with a number of facilities such as: Runway which is longer, namely 1500 x 30 meters from the previous only 850 meters. Equipped with an apron measuring 175 x 75 meters; Taxiway 75 x 15 meters which can accommodate 3 ATR 72 500/600 type aircraft; and a passenger terminal measuring 1600 m2 which can accommodate 53,881 pax/year passengers.
