JAKARTA. PT Pelita Samudera Shipping Tbk (PSSI) has completed the purchase of a floating crane from PT Jembayan Muarabara to aid its business expansion strategy.

The purchase of this floating crane used PSSI’s internal cash, and the crane would be utilised to help the cargo transportation from barges to ships in offshore areas. This facility would also function during the time when ports could not be used for transporting any loads.

Iriawan Ibarat, President Director of PSSI, claimed that the floating crane might be able to load up to 3 million metric tons (MT) per year. Meanwhile, the potential income could reach up to USD 4 million annually.

“Next, the said floating crane would be immediately put into use in long-term contracts of the Contract of Affreightment with one of the primary customers of the company, PT Indexim Coalindo, to transport coals for the next two years,” Ibarat revealed in the official announcement earlier today (9/12).

During the same occasion, Ibarat also disclosed that recently, through its subsidiary, PT Pelita Global Logistik (PGL), PSSI signed a Conditional Sale and Purchase Agreement (CSPA) regarding the discharge of one handysize bulk carrier. This divestment is predicted to generate a potential return of up to USD 2 million.

Ibarat is also assured that these corporate actions align with PSSI’s strategy to accelerate its development towards an integrated maritime logistic service provider. “This transaction would further fuel our business diversification, create an operational synergy, and increase the shareholders’ values,” he added.
