Conventional banks deposits reached IDR 7,338 trillion in November 2021

JAKARTA – The Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (lit. Lembaga Penjamin Simpanan/LPS) recorded total funds in saving accounts of commercial banks of IDR 7,338 trillion by the end of November 2021. It grew 1.2%, as did the total number of bank accounts of 1.7% to 385 million accounts, compared to numbers reported in October 2021.

In the Deposits Distribution of Commercial Bank Report of LPS, quoted on Friday (7/1), the said deposit includes third-party funds and funds from other banks yet excludes overseas deposits and credit loan balance. Specifically, the third-party funds dominated with IDR 7,312 trillion, while funds from other banks amounted to IDR 76 trillion. Conventional units received IDR 6,871 trillion, and sharia units managed IDR 517 trillion. In terms of the type of accounts, the funds comprised deposits of IDR 2,816 trillion, current accounts IDR 2,112 trillion, saving accounts IDR 2,360 trillion, deposits on call IDR 53 trillion, and deposit certificates IDR 2 trillion.

Total bank deposits in November 2021 indicated growth in the last five years since December 2017. In November 2021, deposits increased 10.2% from the number reported in December 2020 of IDR 6,737 trillion. Furthermore, in December 2019 and 2018, deposits reportedly amounted to IDR 6,077 trillion and IDR 5,704 trillion. Then, in December 2017, bank deposits only reached IDR 5,363 trillion.

The funds were mostly saved in national private banks, amounting to IDR 3,175 trillion, followed by state-owned banks of IDR 3,048 trillion, regional development banks of IDR 711 trillion, foreign banks of IDR 220 trillion, and hybrid banks of IDR 199 trillion. (LK/ZH)
