JAKARTA - Indonesia and Belarus continue to seek comprehensive cooperation in the industrial sector in order to improve the economies of the two countries. This synergy step will be realized through the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between the Indonesian Ministry of Industry and the Belarusian Ministry of Industry.

"Some time ago, we had a meeting with the Belarusian Ambassador to discuss the follow-up to the signing of the LoI for Indonesia-Belarusian industrial cooperation," said Director General of Resilience, Territorial and International Industrial Access (KPAII) Eko S.A. Cahyanto in Jakarta, Thursday (20/1).

There are a number of sectors that will be collaborated with, including the automotive component industry, upstream chemical, and agro. One of the potential collaborations that is being stimulated is the collaboration between the Indonesian automotive component industry players and the Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ).

The collaboration that will be targeted by MAZ is to support the first stage of production of the eight vehicle models they produce, including large and small garbage trucks, five-wheel trucks for port needs, long wheelbase trucks, and chassis for special vehicles.

The Director General of KPAII is optimistic that if the Indonesia-Belarus industrial cooperation is implemented, it can increase the trade balance between the two countries. The value of Indonesia's exports to Belarus reached USD 38.03 million in 2020. Indonesia's export products to Belarus in 2020 were dominated by various industrial products, including fishery products, palm oil and its derivatives, contact lenses, and multi-layer paper and cardboard.

Eko added that Indonesia also has the potential to increase the value of exports to Belarus for several industrial products, including motor vehicles, mobile phones, machine tools and components, as well as iron and steel. (LM)
