JAKARTA. Bank Indonesia (BI) purchased Government Securities of IDR 358.32 trillion in total by the end of 2021. Meanwhile, until last week, BI has acquired Government Securities in the primary market for IDR 2.2 trillion.

After the Board of Governors Meeting last week, Perry Warijyo, Governor of BI, specified that those securities comprised securities bought in the primary market of IDR 143.32 trillion and through private placements of IDR 215 trillion. These securities acquisitions are intended to fund the healthcare and humanity service as the COVID-19 pandemic response, based on the Joint Decree of Minister of Finance and Governor of BI, dated August 23, 2021.

By January 18, 2022, BI has obtained government securities in the primary market of IDR 2.2 trillion. Furthermore, BI still increases the quantitative easing in the banks of IDR 5.93 trillion. In comparison, the quantitative easing of BI in 2021 reached IDR 147.83 trillion.

With these conditions, Warijyo reaffirmed that the liquidity rate in banks was still loose. It was evident from the high ratio of liquidity instruments to third-party funds of 35.12% in December 2021. (AM/ZH)
