Ministry of Industry facilitates IKM partnerships with hotels to expand market access

31 January 2022 10:31

JAKARTA - Small and medium industries (IKM) are still facing various challenges, especially in the midst of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. So far, SMEs often find it difficult to partner with large industries and other economic sectors (Horeka), and to enter global supply chains. The lack of experience and networks often becomes an obstacle for SMEs in expanding market access.

Therefore, the Ministry of Industry through the Directorate General of Small, Medium and Multifarious Industries (IKMA) continues to strive for various IKM partnerships with large industries and other economic sectors. Throughout 2021, the Ministry of Industry's Directorate General of IKMA has facilitated 96 IKM players through business meetings with large industries and other sectors. The number of successful partners reached 18 SMIs.

One of the SMEs that has succeeded in establishing partnerships with hotels is Haveltea Indonesia, a local tea produced by Arek Suroboyo. The IKM succeeded in collaborating with Grand Mercure Surabaya as a tea service for guests at the hotel. "CV Haveltea Indonesia is one of the 15 best SMIs in the end product category in the 2021 Indonesia Food Innovation award," said Director General of IKMA at the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita in Jakarta, Saturday (29/1).

Haveltea produces a variety of teas with the best quality tea leaves from plantations in Java, Sumatra and Bali. The innovations include mixing pure tea leaves with various spices and fruits to make artisan teas. Haveltea excellence also lies in the classy packaging used. This IKM also empowers women around the factory to produce premium tea.

The Directorate General of IKMA recruited IKM participants for the 2020-2021 Indonesia Food Innovation award to be included in the curation partnership with PT AAPC Indonesia (Accor Indonesia Group) at the end of last year. Accor Indonesia Group is a company that has thousands of hotel chains around the world. Accor Indonesia oversees well-known hotel brands such as Pullman, Sofitel, Grand Mercure, Novotel, Mercure, and many others.

Reni hopes that, after this partnership, Haveltea can continue to develop its products and be able to penetrate a wider market, both at home and abroad. Because the Indonesian Accor Group has a hotel network that spreads throughout Indonesia and dozens of other countries. (LM)
