JAKARTA – PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) and PT PAL (Persero) will assemble Nusantara mobile power plant (MPP) 1 with a capacity of 60 MW to be placed in Ambon, Maluku. Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PLN, announced this news at the same time the MPP was delivered from PAL Surabaya last week (28/1).

The barge-mounted power plant (BMPP) is said to be the solution for the electricity needs in eastern Indonesia. “In Ambon, the electric power needs have reached 63.6 MW. Thus, with the MBPP on hand, the electricity needs in Ambon will be sufficient and completely handled by PLN,” Prasodjo explained.

According to Prasodjo, the said floating/mobile power plant has spent IDR 997 billion worth of investment. It is targeted to start operating in March 2022. After this project concludes, PLN already intends to introduce Nusantara BMPP 2 and 3 with a capacity of 150 MW. These floating power plants are concrete proof of the synergy of state-owned enterprises.

Kaharuddin Djenod, President Director of PAL, claimed that the Nusantara BMPP 1 was put together amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. “The utilisation of local components will be more optimised in BMPP 2 and 3,” he promised. (LK/ZH)
