PLN readies IDR 1.6 trillion to operate two other floating power plants

JAKARTA – PT Indonesia Power (IP), a subsidiary of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero), and PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) prepare an investment worth IDR 1.6 trillion to establish two barge-mounted power plants (BMPP), Nusantara 2 and 3. The plan follows the initial collaboration of assembling BMPP Nusantara 1 of 60 megawatts (MW).

In the information disclosure quoted Wednesday (2/2), Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PLN, mentioned that each BMPP would have a capacity of 60 MW and 30 MW, respectively. “BMPP Nusantara 2 will supply electricity systems in Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi via a 150-kilovolts (kV) network, while BMPP Nusantara 3 would handle electricity systems in Sambelia, East Lombok,” he added.

The said two units of BMPP are projected to be the pillar of electricity supply in eastern Indonesia. Therefore, the mobility of those two power plants is expected to be higher so that they could be responsible for mobile electricity reverse margin, especially during disasters.

As previously informed, these two state-owned enterprises (BUMN) recently launched BMPP Nusantara 1 last week, investing a total of IDR 977 billion. Currently, the said mobile power plant is being delivered from Tanjung Perak, Surabaya to Ambon, Maluku. (LK/ZH)
