President Jokowi inaugurates Binjai-Stabat toll road

STABAT - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Governor of North Sumatra Edy Rahmayadi and President Director of PT Hutama Karya Budi Harto inaugurated the Binjai-Stabat Toll Road (11.8 km) which is part of section 1 of the Binjai-Langsa Toll Road (131 km), Friday (4/2).

President Jokowi in his remarks said that this toll road is part of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road which will connect the provinces of Aceh and North Sumatra when it is completed.

President Jokowi added that the construction of this toll road also helps access the Bukit Lawang Ecotourist Tourism Area, Bahorok, Tangkahan Tourism Area, and Tuan Guru Spiritual Tourism Area, Tanjung Pura in Langkat Regency. This toll road is also the access for commuters from Binjai to Stabat, Binjai to Medan, and Medan to Kualanamu Airport.

Minister Basuki stated, overall the Trans Sumatra Toll Road is 3,042 km long, consisting of 2,121 km main corridors and 921 km supporting corridors. Currently, 684 km of 10 sections are in operation. Furthermore, currently as many as 8 sections along 533 km are under construction.

The Binjai-Langsa Toll Road was built with a construction value of IDR 16.7 trillion carried out by PT Hutama Karya with the construction progress of the next section, namely Stabat-Tanjung Pura (26.7 km) has reached 50.3% with a target of completion in February 2023. Pangkalan Brandan (19 km) has progressed 9.4% with a target of completion in February 2023. Meanwhile, section 2 which are Pangkalan Brandan-Kuala Simpang (44.2 km) and Kuala Simpang-Langsa (29.2 km) is targeted to be completed in February 2024. (LM)
