JAKARTA. Hajj Fund Management Agency (lit. Badan Pengelola Keuangan Haji/BPKH) is now officially the controlling shareholder of Bank Muamalat, following the issuance of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Decree regarding the Appraisal of Ability and Propriety of BPKH as the Candidate of the Controlling Shareholder of PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia Tbk.

“The decision made by OJK indicates that BPKH, as the controlling shareholder of Bank Muamalat, is deemed capable and appropriate to develop Bank Muamalat further in the future to transform and attain a better performance,” Anggito Abimanyu, Executive Head of BPKH, claimed in the official statement yesterday (14/2).

On November 15 and 16, 2021, BPKH was officially listed as the controlling shareholder of Bank Muamalat after receiving a portion from Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and SEDCO Group of 7,903,112,181 shares, equivalent to 77.42%. This grant boosted BPKH’s ownership percentage in Bank Muamalat to 78.45%.

Furthermore, BPKH’s percentage in Bank Muamalat will increase even higher to 82.7% after this first sharia bank in Indonesia executed its rights issue, in which BPKH will inject another IDR 1 trillion.

Achmad K. Permana, President Director of Bank Muamalat, explained that the bank warmly welcomed this action, as it reflected how the improvement strategies implemented by the company had finally paid off and resulted in positive ends. Next, Achmad plans an internal consolidation, performance improvement, and capitalisation strengthening. (AM/ZH)
