Indonesian automotive industry manages to penetrate Australian market

JAKARTA - The automotive industry in the country is increasingly showing its stretching amid the pressure of the Covid-19 pandemic that is still hitting. This is reflected in the maintained vehicle productivity rate in an effort to meet the needs of the domestic and export markets, which also has an impact on accelerating the national economic recovery.

“The transportation equipment industry has grown tremendously, reaching double digits in 2021, which is 17.82%. The automotive sector is one of the main supports for the growth of the manufacturing industry and the national economy," said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Karawang, Tuesday (15/2).

On this occasion, the Minister of Industry accompanied President Joko Widodo in the event of the Achievement of Export Production to Two Million Units and the Release of the First Export to Australia from PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN). In his report to the President, the Minister of Industry said that this is one of the milestones for the revival of Indonesian automotive products that meet global product standards.

According to the Minister of Industry, as well as exports to Japan, exports of car products to Australia are known to have strict specifications, for example related to fuel, emission and safety specifications, indicating that the Indonesian automotive industry has high competitiveness, so that its products are in demand in various foreign markets. "Thus, after penetrating the Australian market, Indonesia has exported to four continents in the world, namely America, Africa, Asia, Australia," he added.

Regarding the investment value, the automotive industry was recorded to have realized Rp22.5 trillion in 2021, up 220% compared to the investment achievement in 2020. Meanwhile, the Toyota Group's commitment is to increase investment by Rp28.3 trillion until 2024. (LM)
