JAKARTA – PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) is set to supply the need for 20 million metric tons of coals for PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). The said coal supply will be transported using the trains of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).

Rafli Yandra, Director of Business Development of Bukit Asam, said that his company would strengthen its partnership with PLN by ensuring that the coal supply for PLN is constantly well-sustained in the long run. “Through this synergy, PLN could feel secure regarding the fuel supply for its power plants,” he added in the press release quoted Thursday (17/2).

Yandra explained it during the signing of the Head of Agreement (pre-contract) of coals supply in the long term alongside PLN and KAI yesterday (16/2).

Hartanto Wibowo, Director of Primary Energy of PLN, announced that the said collaboration is a form of PLN’s commitment to promoting sustainable coal supply in order to support energy resilience. “The Head of Agreement allows us to conduct a thorough study over the collaboration plan, business model, operational techniques, and risk analysis,” he further claimed.

According to Wibowo, the result of this study will become the guideline for involved parties in executing their roles in this consortium. By 2025, the result can be implemented by the first-ever coal delivery using train cars.

Dadan Rusdiansyah, Commercial Director of KAI, said that KAI had prepared a special investment in relation to this project. “The said Head of Agreement is a collaboration breakthrough, which could hopefully take effect while still prioritising good corporate governance,” he prayed. (LK/ZH)
