Minister of Finance believes the economy can grow 5% in Q1 2022

JAKARTA. The surge of Omicron cases does not significantly affect the economic activities, allowing the Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, to feel optimistic regarding the national economic growth that can climb 5% in Q1 2022.

“The economic recovery will stay solid, and the Ministry of Finance is assured that the economic growth in 2022 would reach approximately 4.8%-5.5%,” the Minister of Finance further stated in the State Budget Performance and Facts yesterday (22/2).

Sri Mulyani admitted that public mobility was being held off earlier this year due to the increased COVID-19 cases. However, average mobility in January and February 2022 was still higher than during Q1 2021.

The more relaxed public mobility is evident, seeing how the Consumer Confidence Index is well-maintained in the optimistic range. “Omicron cases are surely increasing, and the activities may be reduced, but it does not affect the consumers’ confidence level,” the Minister added. (AM/ZH)
