SURABAYA - The Directorate General of National Export Development (Ditjen PEN) of the Ministry of Trade aims to increase exports in the manufacturing industry sector. One of the efforts is to improve the design of manufacturing products.
Yesterday (22/2) the Directorate General of National Education collaborated with the Sepuluh Nopember Institute (ITS) Surabaya and Ciputra University Surabaya to socialize the 2022 Good Design Indonesia (GDI) program. The activity was carried out in a hybrid manner in Surabaya, East Java. The event was attended by academics, designers, and business people.
“The Ministry of Trade has taken several strategic steps to increase exports. For example, refocusing exports from primary products to value-added industrial or processed products, diversifying export products, and establishing trade agreements with new trading partner countries. The momentum of increasing exports throughout 2021 which set a new record at USD 219.25 billion also needs to be maintained through work programs that support the target of increasing exports and accelerating the national economic recovery," said Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi on a separate occasion.
Director of Export Product Development Miftah Farid said, during the five years of GDI implementation, the Ministry of Trade has seen products or services created by business actors with formal design education backgrounds that have good concepts. Generally, these business actors also have the ability to write in explaining products (story telling) which are inspiring and are able to convey the message or meaning of a product well.
The implementation of GDI 2022 carries the theme "Gateway towards Global Market". The goal is to support the development of high-tech industrial design in Indonesia. In addition, GDI is expected to be able to build the image of Indonesia as a country that is able to produce products with good designs and can be sold to become an economic source for its workers.
