Pertamina NRE to build a solar power plant in KAI stations

10 March 2022 11:20

JAKARTA – PT Pertamina NRE, a subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero), will establish a solar power plant (lit. Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Surya/PLTS) on top of assets of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero). It is intended to support the utilisation of new and renewable energy (NRE) resources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 29% in 2030.

Dannif Danusaputro, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pertamina NRE, claimed that his company joined forces with KAI to supply environmentally friendly energy within KAI operational areas. “The biggest opportunity right now is to establish PLTS. The hydrogen utilisation [as an energy source] will be developed later,” he added in the press release quoted Thursday (10/3).

The collaboration between Pertamina NRE and KAI regarding this solar power plant installation was finalised yesterday (9/3). Both parties have mapped out the potential energy generated by PLTS in 70 stations of KAI, which will generate 229,167 kWh/month or 2.75 MWh/year. The said generated capacity can cut down carbon dioxide emission by 174,459,801.6 kg of CO2 per year.

The first phase will have PLTS installed in 12 locations spread across nine stations in Jakarta Operational Zone I, equipped with an installed capacity of 0.5 MWp. The three others will be built in Balai Yasa (Freight Car Inspection and Maintenance Facility) Manggarai, Balai Yasa Yogyakarta, Balai Yasa Surabaya, with an installed capacity of 0.5 MWp.

Previously, PNRE had installed solar panels in Batang Station with a capacity of 6 kWp and another in Garut Station of 60 kWp. (LK/ZH)
