11 March 2022 10:58

JAKARTA - Improvements in retail sales performance are forecasted to continue with slightly restrained growth in February 2022. This is reflected in the Real Sales Index (IPR) for February 2022, which is predicted to reach 202.8, or continue to grow at 14.5% (yoy), although not as high as the previous month by 15.2%. The slowdown occurred in the Spare Parts and Accessories as well as Food, Beverage and Tobacco groups. On a monthly basis, retail sales are forecasted to contract 3.2% (mtm).

The decline in sales occurred in the majority of groups, such as the Cultural and Recreational Goods, Spare Parts and Accessories and Motor Vehicle Fuels, in line with lower public demand, more limited supply, and unfavorable weather conditions.

In the previous period, the results of the Retail Sales Survey (SPE) indicated that retail sales performance for the January 2022 period increased on an annual basis. The Real Sales Index (IPR) in January 2022 was recorded at 209.6, or grew 15.2% (yoy), an increase compared to the previous month of 13.8% (yoy).

In terms of prices, respondents predict inflationary pressures in April 2022 (3 months yad) to increase and then decline in July 2022 (6 months yad). The General Price Expectation Index (IEH) for April 2022 is estimated to reach 139.1, or higher than 129.2 in the previous month driven by high demand during Ramadan. IEH July 2022 is estimated to be 129.8, lower than 132.0 supported by smooth distribution of goods and adequate supply of goods and services. (LM)
