JAKARTA - To optimize the benefits of Water Resources (SDA) in the Provinces of Papua and West Papua, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has built many dams and this is followed by the development and management of irrigation networks to support the productivity of agricultural centers. One of the dam constructions was carried out by the Papua River Basin Center (BWS) by damming the Wanggar River to irrigate 3,200 hectares of agricultural land in Nabire Regency.

The Wanggar Weir has been built in stages since 2019 starting with sheet pile piling work, the construction of an 845 meter long cofferdam for the construction of the weir body, upstream floor work, and construction of inspection bridge pillars. In 2020, the construction of the Wanggar Weir will continue with the work of laying sheet piles on the right and left cold treads, erecting 30 cm diameter piles, and making the right and left wall treads upstream of the weir.

The construction work on the Wanggar Weir will resume in 2022 after being stopped in 2021. The 2022 FY development plan includes floor work downstream of the weir, right and left walls downstream of the weir, right wall upstream of the weir, and work on the weir tower with a budget requirement of IDR 74.9 billion.

Furthermore, in FY 2023, completion works are also planned to include cofferdam, upstream left upright wall and sloping wall (wing) weir, sandtrap, inspection bridge, dam capping dam, primary network and irrigation structures up to the first tapping. The total budget requirement for FY 2023 work is estimated to be around IDR 251.1 billion. (LM)
