JAKARTA – H&M Group, a multinational fashion manufacturer, signed the contract of 60,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity based on new and renewable energy (NRE) from PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) yesterday (13/4), available until 2026. This NRE utilisation will be implemented via the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) installed on 10 production partners in West Java.

Frank Blin Gonsalves, Country Manager of H&M Group Production Office for Indonesia, mentioned that NRE utilisation is a corporate commitment in resisting the climate change. “The REC contract between PLN and H&M factory partners is intended to support the net-zero emission target of Indonesia by 2060,” he explained in the press release quoted Thursday (14/4).

These 10 factories are PT Royal Puspita, PT Doosan Jaya Sukabumi, PT Doosan Dunia Busana, PT Panasia Jaya Abadi, PT Busana Indah Global, PT Kreasi Garment Cirebon, PT C-Site Texpia, PT Minu Garment Sukses, PT Dreamwear, and PT Kahatex.

Abdul Farid, Executive Vice President Retail of PLN for Java, Madura, and Bali Region, believed that REC will facilitate the consumers to see the acknowledgement of transparent, accountable, and globally-recognised NRE utilisation. “With the implementation of REC, the customers are guaranteed using the electric power auditable by an international tracing system called APX TIGRS in California, US,” he continued.
