TOBA to start operating PLTU Sulbagut-1 soon

JAKARTA. PT TBS Energi Utama Tbk (TOBA), a coal mining company owned by Luhut Pandjaitan’s nephew, will initiate the operation of the Steam Power Plant of Sulbagut-1 (lit. PLTU Sulbagut-1) soon after obtaining the commercial operation date (COD) from PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).

Alfin F. Sunanda, Director of TOBA, mentioned that PT Gorontalo Listrik Perdana (GLP), a subsidiary that will take over the said power plant, just secured the COD on April 13, 2022. “Based on PLN’s letter, the commercial operation date is scheduled for December 31, 2021,” he revealed in the information disclosure in Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX).

Based on idnfinancials.com data, Sulbagut-1 Steam Power Plant is located in Tomilito Regency, Gorontalo. This plant has a capacity of 100 megawatts (MW) and is estimated to utilise coals of up to 650 thousand tons per year.

For the record, GLP is a consortium established by TOBA, PT Toba Sejahatera, and Shanghai Electric Power Construction. TOBA’s ownership percentage in the said subsidiary is 60%.

GLP is known to have been granted a credit facility by PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (BMRI) of USD 171.77 million to initiate the construction of PLTU Sulbagut-1 in 2017. The said facility is a term loan with a tenor capped at 12 years. (KR/ZH)
