JAKARTA – PT Arthaco Prima Energy (APE), a subsidiary of PT MNC Energy Investments Tbk (IATA), discovered coal reserves of 20.58 million metric tons (MT) with gross as received (GAR) of 3,350 kg/kcal in Musi Banyuasin mining area, South Sumatra. This discovery, announced by the Indonesian Mineral Reserve Committee (lit. Komite Cadangan Mineral Indonesia/KCMI), took place in one of APE’s Mining Business License areas.

Santi Paramita, Corporate Secretary of MNC Energy Investments, confirmed that IATA’s coal reserves are now enhanced from 138.1 million MT to 158.68 million MT following the recent coal reserves discovery. “The reserves were found during the drilling stage over 380-hectare land, which makes up the current total reserves area of 2,059 Ha,” she further revealed in the press release quoted Monday (9/5).

According to Paramita, the said coal reserves are yet to include reserves from other APE’s Mining Business License areas, 80% of which have not been prospected that belong to other mining license holders. They include PT Indonesia Batu Prima Energi (IBPE), PT Bhumi Sriwijaya Perdana Coal-South (BSPC-S), PT Putra Mandiri Coal (PUMCO), PT Primaraya Energi (PE), PT Titan Prawira Sriwijaya (TPS), PT Sriwijaya Energi Persada (SEP), and PT Energi Inti Bara Pratama (EIBP).

It was also stated that the company’s coal reserves will continue to increase, supposedly reaching 600 million MT if the drilling activities are sustained. “The second and third stage of drilling in APE’s Mining Business License areas are expected to be finished by the end of this quarter,” Paramita asserted.
