Inflation will subside in June 2022, BI says

JAKARTA – Bank Indonesia (BI) estimates the inflationary pressure will be tempered down in June and September 2022 as the Sales Expectation Index (SEI) deflates. This downturn is deemed possible following the normalisation of public’s activities post-Eid.

In Retail Sales Survey of BI published earlier today (12/5), Erwin Haryono, Executive Director and Head of Communication Department of Bank Indonesia, revealed that the Price Expectation Index (PEI) in June 2022 slid off to 135.6 from May 2022’s PEI of 141.3. Furthermore, PEI in September 2022 reportedly arrived at 129.8, also stepping down from 132.4 in August 2022.

“This decrease in the estimated PEI goes in accordance with community activities that are back to normal post-Eid holidays, as well as the smooth distribution and abundant supplies of staples,” Haryono explained.

The SEI in June 2022 is projected to drop to 154.1 from 157.8 in May 2022, similar to the SEI in September 2022 that decreased 153 from 155.1 in August 2022. The decline in September 2022 might be due to hindering weather and season. (LK/ZH)
