Emdeki to branch out to mortar and PCC manufacture

13 May 2022 07:56

JAKARTA – PT Emdeki Utama Tbk (MDKI), a base chemical manufacturer, will extend its business scope to the mortar and precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) manufacturing industry. The final say about this plan will be out after the Annual General Shareholders Meeting on June 22, 2022.

Happy Hapsono, Corporate Secretary of Emdeki Utama, mentioned that the company planned to incorporate the remaining stock of limestones to a new product, which is mortar. “This production is planned to take place in Gresik, East Java, where the company is headquartered,” he announced in the information disclosure quoted Friday (13/5).

According to Hapsono, the mortar industry is currently on the rise compared to conventional cement manufacturing industry. Mortar is better in a way that it is instant and does not need other add-ons in its application. “The mortar production will improve the factory utilisation,” he believed.

A similar reason is revealed to be behind MDKI’s decision to also manufacture PCC, that is processed limestone. This substance is incorporated in several industries, including pharmaceutical products, tint, paint, and polymer pipes. These extra two business lines are expected to increase users in the future.

MDKI is known as the sole manufacturer of base chemical compound calcium carbide and ferrosilicon. One of the raw materials used in their production happens to be limestones. The remaining of these limestones are the ones that the company will employ to expand its business. (LK/ZH)
