JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to push for a balance between the growth of the manufacturing sector and environmental sustainability. In the midst of the positive growth of the non-oil and gas industry sector of 3.67%, with the absorption of labor increasing by 1.2 million people, the Ministry of Industry also continues to strive for the national industry to transform into a green industry.

"Through this transformation, we hope that the manufacturing sector will contribute to reducing carbon emissions and transitioning green energy to a carbon neutral and green economy in Indonesia," said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta, Tuesday (17/5).

Agus said that green industry development efforts can be carried out with two strategies, namely greening the existing industry (greening the brown industry) and creating new industries according to the principles of the green industry (developing the new green industry).

To accelerate the implementation of a competitive green industry, the Ministry of Industry has priority programs such as increasing production and resource efficiency, developing environmentally friendly raw materials (green materials), and green products.

"Throughout 2021, there are 152 industrial companies participating in the green industry program, with the achievement of energy savings equivalent to IDR 3.2 trillion and water saving equivalent to IDR 169 billion," said Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry, Doddy Rahadi.

Doddy added that the Ministry of Industry also continues to encourage fiscal and non-fiscal facilitation programs and policies for businesses that are committed to supporting the strengthening of green industries on an ongoing basis. (LM)
