JAKARTA – PT Pegadaian faces a lawsuit of IDR 222.50 billion following the alleged copyrights infringement of Gold Savings program filed in Central Jakarta District Court. The lawsuit was submitted by Arie Indra Manurung last week (10/5) under case No.40/Pdt.Sus-HKI/2022/PN Niaga Jkt Pst.

In the press release quoted Thursday (19/5), Basuki Tri Andayani, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pegadaian, claimed that the company is currently examining the lawsuit files received in the Central Jakarta Disctrict Court. “We will follow the applicable legal proceedings and comply to the government regulation or other legal requirements,” he clarified.

According to Andayani, the management is also committed to protect consumers’ rights so that its users do not face any dire consequences. Pegadaian’s Gold Savings program officially kicked off on July 15, 2015, during the Pasar Murah BUMN (State-Owned Enterprise) event in Garut, West Java. This product has an authorisation granted by the Financial Services Authority under Letter No.3-427/NB.11/2016 issued on February 17, 2016.

Arie Indra Manurung, through his legal advisor, Usman, SH., claimed to be the first to create a gold and precious metal investment and trading system titled Goldgram. Therefore, stating that Gold Savings program is Pegadaian’s violates the copyrights infringement regarding the precious metal trading and investment system. Thus, he now demands to the program termination after the court ruling is out. (LK/ZH)
