JAKARTA - Indonesia and Germany focus on accelerating the application of industry 4.0 in an effort to boost economic growth. This became one of the main discussions at the German-Indonesian Round Table Business Meeting as part of the agenda for the visit of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Indonesia.

“Now is the time for economic recovery. This is in accordance with the motto of the Indonesian G20 Presidency, namely Recover Together, Recover Stronger," said German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in his remarks at the closing of the German-Indonesian Round Table Business Meeting in Jakarta, Thursday (16/6).

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany also believes that digital transformation can accelerate economic recovery. He appreciated the existence of the Indonesian Digital Industry Center 4.0 (PIDI 4.0). "Indonesia has a unique opportunity to transform, because it has a young and digitally literate population," he said

The Minister of Industry said that both countries agree that increasing digitization in the manufacturing industry sector will encourage collaboration between all stakeholders, from policy makers, industry players, associations, to academics. “Each party plays its role in the industry 4.0 ecosystem. For this reason, we hope that Indonesia and Germany will continue to strengthen and expand this cooperation," he said.

The bilateral meeting also discussed infrastructure development to boost productivity and competitiveness in the industrial sector. According to the Minister of Industry, infrastructure expansion in Indonesia can only occur if international development partners, banks, the private sector and infrastructure investors, are on the same interest and agenda in pursuing these goals. “Today's roundtable concludes with a dialogue on sustainability. We agree that the world urgently needs a resolution on climate change and other pressures on the environment,” he said. (LM)
