Indonesia's Manufacturing PMI in June recorded at 50.2

JAKARTA - The industrial sector, which supports efforts to recover the economy, has continued to show steady expansion in the last ten months. Indonesia's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) showed a figure of 50.2 in June 2022. Although there was a slight contraction from the PMI level in the previous month, this still indicates a return to growth in the manufacturing sector.

"This condition is also supported by the export performance of the manufacturing sector which reached USD 14.14 billion in May 2022, up 7.78% from the previous April," said Ministry of Industry spokesman Febri Hendri Antoni Arif in Jakarta, Saturday (2/7).

He said, based on the S&P Global report, manufacturing sector activity continued to improve, with demand volumes continuing to grow. "Although it cannot be denied, the slowdown in Indonesia's Manufacturing PMI in June 2022 was influenced by the increase in raw material prices which affected output prices. This slowdown was also experienced by other ASEAN countries," said Febri.

Seeing this condition, the Ministry of Industry continues to strive to maintain the competitiveness of the national industry and encourage the formation of public demand. One of the steps taken, for example, was to facilitate a meeting between small and medium-sized industry players (IKM) of automotive components and principal automotive companies from Japan during a series of visits by the Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita to Japan earlier this week. This activity aims to explore opportunities for IKM players to become part of the supply chain for components of Japanese cars, including in other countries which are also investment destinations for the automotive company.
