Trade balance surplus continues

18 July 2022 07:54

JAKARTA - Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's trade balance in June 2022 again recorded a surplus of 5.09 billion US dollars, an increase compared to the previous month's surplus of 2.90 billion US dollars.

This positive performance has continued Indonesia's trade balance surplus since May 2020. Indonesia's trade balance in January-June 2022 as a whole recorded a surplus of USD 24.89 billion, much higher than the achievement in the first half of 2021 of USD 11.84 billion. Bank Indonesia views that the trade balance surplus has contributed positively to maintaining the external resilience of the Indonesian economy.

Going forward, Bank Indonesia will continue to strengthen policy synergies with the Government and relevant policy authorities to increase external resilience and support national economic recovery.

The trade balance surplus in June 2022 came from the non-oil and gas trade balance surplus amid an increasing oil and gas trade balance deficit. In June 2022, the non-oil and gas trade balance surplus was recorded at 7.23 billion US dollars, higher than the surplus in the previous month of 4.76 billion US dollars. This development was supported by an increase in non-oil and gas exports from 20.01 billion US dollars in May 2022 to 24.56 billion US dollars in June 2022.

Meanwhile, the oil and gas trade balance deficit recorded an increase from 1.86 billion US dollars in May 2022 to 2.14 billion US dollars in June 2022, in line with the increase in oil and gas imports which was higher than the increase in oil and gas exports. (LM)
