Car exports grew 45.8% until July 2022

JAKARTA. The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (lit. Gabungan Industri Kendaraan Bermotor Indonesia/Gaikindo) data recorded growth in car exports from January to July 2022 of 45.8% year-on-year (yoy). Toyota lead the trend with the highest surge of 31.6%.

Head of Gaikindo, Yohannes Nangoi, revealed that the car export in said period clocked up to 242,201 units of completely-built-up (CBU) vehicles and 61,313 units of completely-knocked-down (CKD) vehicles, as well as 76.4 million components. In comparison, exports from January to July 2021 reached 166,100 units of CBU vehicles. “Therefore, there was an increase of exports of 76,101 units of CBU vehicles, or 45.8%,” he explained during the opening of Gaikindo Indonesia Internasional Auto Show (GIIAS) 2022 in ICE BSD City, Tangerang, yesterday (11/8).

The export in 2022 has surpassed the 2019 record, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the record, the export of CBU vehicles in 2019 reached 169,424 units.

Daihatsu cars are the most exported brand, sending out 81,827 units until July 2022, growing 21.1% yoy. Toyota came second, exporting 76,506 units. However, until July 2022, Toyota claimed the highest export growth among other brands, proliferating as high as 116.7%. (AM/ZH)
