Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan books export potential of USD 3.2 billion to India

NEW DELHI - Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan led a delegation of Indonesia's trade mission to New Delhi, India and managed to record export potential with a value of USD 3.2 billion. During the trade mission which took place Monday (22/8), Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan brought 10 Indonesian business players and exporters, as well as associations. The working visit of the Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan is the first trade mission of the Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan to foreign countries since taking office on June 15, 2022.

"The delegation of the Indonesian trade mission to India managed to record an export potential of USD 3.2 billion or around Rp. 46.98 trillion. This export potential was obtained from the signing of 22 cooperation agreements (MoUs) between business actors from the two countries," explained Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan.

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan explained that India was chosen as the first overseas visit because it is Indonesia's strategic trading partner. "The two countries have a long and close historical relationship, fellow G20 countries and their economies complement each other because we need each other," said Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan.

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan also explained that the signing of 22 MoUs on the trade mission included palm oil (CPO) products, olein, coal, furniture, plastic tools, as well as pulp and paper with a total value of USD 3.2 billion. "Especially for palm oil products, the total commitments that have been agreed are 2.6 million tons or USD 3.16 billion," added Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) processed by the Ministry of Trade, the total trade between Indonesia and India in January-June 2022 was recorded at USD 16.67 billion. Indonesia's total non-oil and gas exports to India in that period were recorded at USD 15.3 billion, an increase of 75 percent compared to the same period the previous year which was only USD 8.7 billion.
